Clancy is a character that came to life several years ago while on a teaching residence in the lovely town of St. Paul, Nebraska. I stayed in very nice loft apartment with a great sound system where I spent time drawing on the balcony.

I spent part of my evenings at the local pub eating fried green beans and working on drawings which would become Clancy. I’m a bit camera shy, so I don’t post a lot of photos of myself, but I tend to wear lots of hats (not all at the same time, generally) and a vest or two (you never know 😉 ), interesting boots, usually sunglasses. Nothing that would stand out in a city, I tend to wear muted earth tones and greys. But…in a small town in the middle of Nebraska, I was an anomaly. Wearing my woolen flat cap, looking like a middle class Tom Waits amongst the cowfolk, I almost fit in, but not quite… Back to Clancy…a gentleman pumpkin with bits of my dad, Cary Grant (especially North by Northwest), and some Matthew Lillard as Shaggy. He’ll show up throughout the year but especially in October. Clancy finds adventure at home and while traveling.

Here he is in my piece called The Witness.
