Beginning next Wednesday, September 9, I’m serializing a short story in five parts.
Rattlesnake Rodeo is one of several stories based on tales I’ve gathered from my hometown during the 1980s and 90s – Grand Lake Tales.
Mostly centered around our small, rural town’s particular brand of Satanic Panic, which was more about fear, imaginary “satanists”, local moral panic, gossip, and hellfire and brimstone than the ritual abuse often associated with the phenomenon . This story takes place three years before the main storyline, at a Pentecostal camp where campers capture rattlesnakes as part of a yearly festival.
Inspired by my personal experiences, local news from the time (they burned piles of cds and books in a parking lot!), and stories from locals, Grand Lake Tales is a collection of original, short horror stories.
Please join me on this journey!
Until next time, stay safe out there.
